Records for gold and copper lead surge in metals prices

Gold and copper led a surge in metals prices this week as investors committed new money to commodities at the start of the second quarter.

Gold reached a 25-year high of $598 a troy ounce yesterday before falling to $588.90 as the dollar strengthened after robust US employment data.
