Kyrgyzstan leader agrees to limit powers

Kurmanbek Bakiyev, the leader of Kyrgyzstan, bowed to pressure from mass protests calling for his resignation and signed a new constitution on Thursday that will limit the powers of the presidency in the Central Asian republic.

Jubilant crowds filled the centre of Bishkek, the Kyrgyz capital, celebrating the successful conclusion of six days of mainly peaceful street protests.
