Builders fined £130m for rigging bids

The Office of Fair Trading on Tuesday fined more than 100 construction companies a total of £129.5m for rigging bids for building work between 2000 and 2006.

However, in a departure from normal practice, the guilty parties have been given up to three years to pay – as opposed to the usual two months – because of the strain the recession has put on the construction industry.
