More than 20 people were arrested on Tuesday in an operation billed by Revenue & Customs as its biggest against the growing cross-border value added tax scam known as carousel fraud.

Revenue & Customs said that 15 people were detained in Glasgow, five in Manchester and two in London as 100 police officers and more than 400 customs investigators searched more than 60 premises in the early hours.
