Berlin accused of back-door deals in EU parliament

Back-door German power and influence over the European parliament is undermining democracy in the European Union and putting the brakes on free market reforms, the leader of the parliament's Liberal group has claimed.

Graham Watson alleges Angela Merkel's "grand coalition" government in Berlin is dictating terms to the European parliament, and played a pivotal role this month in watering down laws to open up the EU's services market.
