Apple aims 'headless' $500 Mac mini at mass market

Apple Computer lived up to expectations yesterday by launching the Mac mini, a stripped-down desktop computer designed to capitalise on the success of the company's popular iPod digital music player.

Apple also unveiled the long awaited iPod Shuffle, a slimmed-down music player that stores song files on flash memory instead of the hard disc drives iPods currently use.
