American Airlines hit by continuing losses

AMR, the parent company of American Airlines, reported a heavy second quarter loss for the second consecutive year, as sales came under pressure from weak demand and falling fares.

Gerard Arpey, AMR chief executive, said on Wednesday revenues were down sharply from a year ago as a result of continuing weakness in the global economy.
