UK output hit forever, say experts

The severity of the current recession means that Britain’s productive capacity will be permanently damaged, economists say.

The idea that productive output is gone forever is difficult for many people to accept. But economists insist that, even if growth rebounds strongly, the UK’s total output is likely to be permanently lower than if the crisis had not occurred.
