Britain’s manufacturing industry has fared less badly than that in comparable countries during the downturn, according to Financial Times analysis.

The data lend weight to suggestions that the sector could be in a good position to benefit during a “rebalancing” of UK output – even though manufacturing has been hit worse than other sectors such as services in recent months.
