Eight-gold-medal-winner US swimmer Michael Phelps wasn’t the only star in the pool at the Water Cube during this summer’s Beijing Olympics. The swimsuit worn by him and other swimmers, the Speedo Fastskin LZR Racer, has now notched up more than 60 world records since its launch in February.

The suit, which goes on sale to the public this autumn, was designed with the help of scientists at Nasa, the US space agency, and the University of Nottingham, who created a shark-like second skin that reduces drag on a human body in water by as much as 10 per cent.
