At 7pm sharp, a tiny Tanzanian village sprang into life as shops, a school, houses and restaurants simultaneously lit up amid the murkiness of an African evening. Music blasted from stereos and primary school students gathered for evening tuition in preparation for national exams later this year. Exactly three hours later, a switch was flicked and Ngarambe descended back into darkness, the music replaced by murmurs.
It is a scene that has been repeated daily since May last year after ABB Group donated a 60KVA generator to the village. The donation is part of a development project that sees the Swiss company linking up with the Worldwide Fund for Nature, which has been working in the area for a number of years, seeking to advance the lives of villagers in southern Tanzania.
