Household goods boost retail sales

British consumers flocked to the high street in July, with the volume of retail sales rising in line with expectations amid signs of a slight recovery in purchases of discretionary items.

Overall, retail sales volumes rose by 0.4 per cent in July from June, bringing the annualised rate of growth to 3.3 per cent, according to the Office for National Statistics.
