ITV is considering the sale of the social networking site Friends Reunited and other digital assets as part of a second phase of cost cutting that will see the commercial broadcaster shed a further 500 jobs.

The company is being advised by Lazard, but a formal sale process for Friends Reunited, which was bought in 2006 for £175m ($249m) to strengthen the broadcaster’s online presence, has not been started.
