Authorities vow to curb council tax

Two London local authorities have pledged record-breaking council tax curbs, setting up a stark “ideological divide” over the future provision of local services.

Councils across the country face the prospect of a squeeze on public spending and falling incomes but Conservative-controlled Hammersmith and Fulham will today announce it will cut its council tax 3 per cent for a fourth year in succession, the only authority in the UK to have done so.
