Indian car chiefs plot a global route

When Ravi Kant, the head of Tata Motors, held a press briefing in July on the group’s plans, most of the questions focused on the company’s so-called “one lakh” car.

A dirt cheap, $2,500 vehicle Tata Motors is developing for India’s lower-income market, the project has won the company fame globally as the leading contender to the title of the world’s lowest cost car producer.
