One of Granta’s Best of Young British Novelists in 2003, David Peace first came to readers’ attention with The Red Riding Quartet, an uncompromising police series based on the Yorkshire Ripper murders of the 1970s. His fifth novel, GB84, dramatised the miners’ strike, while The Damned Utd fictionalised the downfall of Brian Clough, the least successful manager in the history of Leeds United Football Club.
