Putin warns on Europe gas transit

The Kremlin stepped up pressure on the European Union to help Ukraine pay for gas on Wednesday, warning that Russian gas transit across Ukraine to Europe could stop within a month causing energy shortages on the continent.

Vladimir Putin, the Russian prime minister, said, “We are giving an early warning that gas transit (across Ukraine) might halt at the end of June or the beginning of July.”
