Foreign orders drive German recovery

German factory output surged unexpectedly in September, as foreign demand for capital goods and cars bolstered recovery in the eurozone's largest economy in the third quarter.

The economics ministry said industrial output rose 2.7 per cent on a seasonally adjusted basis during the month, far higher than economists' average predictions of a 1 per cent gain.
