Continental reaches deal with Schaeffler

Schaeffler, the privately-owned bearings maker, has won one of the fiercest takeover battles corporate Germany has seen in recent years.

On Wednesday night Schaeffler made the widely anticipated move of raising its bid for Continental, Germany’s second largest automotive supplier, and agreed to limit its position to a minority shareholding until at least 2012.
