Sir, Tim Parks may or may not be right when he says that the Islamic ban on interest is preventing Muslims from integrating with the western societies in which they live ("Sharia law on banking hinders integration of Muslims", June 17), but he is wrong, I think, to explain the medieval Christian ban as an attempt to stifle enterprise because it threatened social stability.
