What can we hold on to as share prices whizz downwards? There is ghastly truth in the market cliché that you should not try to catch a falling knife.

But if you want to try to call an end to this sell-off, which can now fairly be called a crash, then trying to work out how much a stock is worth is virtually irrelevant.
