After nearly two years of diplomatic pressure and international litigation, Argentine protesters on Wednesday agreed to lift temporarily the blockade of a bridge that crosses into neighbouring Uruguay in support of a higher cause: football.

Argentina faced Uruguay in a critical World Cup qualifier game on Wednesday, which the team of Diego Maradona had to win to have the chance of going to South Africa next year.
