The canny but generous ‘racer’s racer’

Tom Wheatcroft, a millionaire motor racing entrepreneur and owner of the Donington Park circuit, has died at the age of 87.

Described by former team owner Eddie Jordan as “the racer’s racer”, he made his fortune from construction and property development in the East Midlands, but pumped most of it into his beloved racing interests, acquiring the world’s biggest collection of classic Grand Prix cars as well as Donington Park.
