No pause in DVR novelty

The video cassette recorder switched power to viewers by offering a way to record television programming to watch when they liked and another distribution system for video content, particularly movies.

Now they are likely to use a DVD player – maybe a next-generation Blu-ray or HD DVD player – for watching rented movies and either a DVD recorder or a hard-drive based digital video recorder for time-shifting broadcast, satellite or cable-TV content.
