European equity markets powered to their fourth consecutive day of gains, led higher by strong commodities stocks and a banking rally.

“A lot of investors have been long on oil and short on banks, and that is a bet that is now closing, which has given a boost to equities,” said Thierry Lacraz, strategist at Pictet & Cie.
