Banks urged to regain public trust

Chancellor Alistair Darling will on Friday urge banks to act swiftly to regain public trust amid concern in government of an anti-banking backlash, similar to the one in the US, taking hold in the UK.

He fears anti-bank sentiment, typified by public disgust over the pension of Sir Fred Goodwin, the former Royal Bank of Scotland chief executive, could cast a shadow over the recovery of the whole sector.
