Brussels to issue fewer rules to financial industry

Europe’s financial services industry will be spared a fresh barrage of European Union regulation during the next five years, though Brussels may propose a small number of new laws to open up markets such as mortgages and clearing and settlement.

The new era of regulatory restraint was announced on Monday in the European Commission’s white paper on financial services policy.
