The board of Toys R Us, the US retailer, is expected to meet on Monay to consider the sale of its flagship global toy business, which is being courted by four groups of private equity buyers.

A deal would mark the end of the company's unsuccessful attempt to turn around its toy operations, which has struggled to compete with Wal-Mart and Target, discounters that have aggressively cut prices on the most popular toys.
