Troubled JAL seeks deferral of debt

Japan Airlines on Friday cancelled its financial forecasts for the year and said it was seeking temporary suspension of debt repayments while a government-backed turnround agency formulates a rescue plan for its business.

The troubled carrier blamed the slow pace of efforts to secure financial aid as it acknowledged that a hoped for recovery in the second half was probably out of reach.
