Purcell gets $44m for leaving Morgan Stanley

Philip Purcell will get a pay-off of about $44m for agreeing to step down as chairman and chief executive of Morgan Stanley, the bank revealed on Thursday.

Morgan Stanley has also agreed to pay Stephen Crawford, whom Mr Purcell promoted to co-president in a controversial reshuffle in March, a minimum of $32m if he resigns for any reason in the next month.
