IPOs to remain in limbo

This week’s decision by Kohlberg Kravis Roberts to delay its planned New York initial public offering shows just how difficult it is to raise new equity in the current market environment.

The private equity company explained the move by saying there was massive uncertainty, a lack of transparency, and a drying up of liquidity in the financial system, adding it could not be sure how badly the latest woes in the global economy and financial markets would affect its business.
