Le Monde in shareholder showdown

Le Monde, France’s most venerable daily newspaper, is facing a fresh management crisis as its corporate shareholders and staff association battle for control of the group.

The latest hostilities follow an apparent attempt by Lagardère and Prisa, the French and Spanish media groups that own 32 per cent of Le Monde, to recapitalise the paper and turn the staff into minority shareholders.
