Councils under fire on home building

Councils are under too much pressure to build new homes rather than concentrate on improving existing properties in their area, according to a report on Wednesday by the Audit Commission.

The public sector watchdog says that councils are “fee pressured” into focusing on building new housing, which is a priority of the Westminster government.
