Clothing chains suffer season in the sun

The impact of unusually warm autumn weather on clothing retailers will be laid bare this week when Marks and Spencer, Next and Associated British Foods – owner of the Primark chain – report on their performances.

Retailers have been hit by a period of higher temperatures than usual at a time when they are attempting to shift chunky knitwear – ordered in anticipation of this being a hot fashion trend this autumn – as well as more traditional coats and jackets.
