UK house price inflation hits nine-year low

House prices are on a gently slowing trend, the Nationwide building society said on Thursday as it reported that the annual rate of increase had fallen to a nine-year low.

Average property prices as measured by the mortgage lender increased marginally by 0.3 per cent between April and May. This pushed the annual inflation rate to 5.5 per cent, a level not seen since August 1996.
