The United Nations Security Council on Friday finally delivered a ceasefire plan for southern Lebanon that it hopes will end five weeks of conflict and establish at least the groundwork for a lasting peace on Israel’s northern border.
“This resolution will not only take care of the immediate situation . . . but also of the long-term situation. Because this cannot happen again,” said France’s UN ambassador Jean-Marc de la Sablière, who hammered out the details of the resolution with John Bolton of the US.
