Osborne rejects upfront tax cuts

George Osborne, shadow chancellor, on Monday promised a new Conservative “age of responsibility”, in which an incoming Tory government would tackle Britain’s debt culture and bring down the soaring budget deficit.

Mr Osborne told the Tory conference in Birmingham the public finances were so dire that there could be no upfront, unfunded tax cuts. Declaring himself a “fiscal Conservative”, he said: “There is no more money.”
