Insurers step up honesty checks

Insurers are stepping up their efforts to prevent "desperate" customers making dishonest savings on their home and motor policies as the credit crunch deepens.

Concerned that financial stress will push some to lie on their proposals to get cheaper cover, insurers are telephoning customers to challenge data they have put on their quotes. These tactics come as one insurer reports a 30 per cent rise in suspect claims.
