Investigators were yesterday assessing the fire damage caused to the Channel tunnel that is likely to disrupt cross-Channel rail services for months.

The fire, which broke out on Thursday afternoon on a train carrying trucks, was the worst in the tunnel's nearly 14 years of operations.
