Banks move to allay fears of brokerage account investors

Banks and brokerage firms are rushing to reassure investors holding money and securities in brokerage accounts, as some investors are switching to custody accounts in a flight to safety.

US investors are holding about $25,000bn in brokerage accounts, with many retail customers using them as checking accounts and maintaining high cash balances.
