Among the many people taken by surprise by the speed of the revolution that came with the fall of the Berlin Wall are Eduard Kucera and Pavel Baudis, two Czech software entrepreneurs who started in business in 1989 by forming a co-operative.

Together with other scientists they dabbled in everything from computer programming to selling medical equipment.
