Portugal votes to liberalise abortion law

Portugal has voted to liberalise one of Europe’s strictest abortion laws in a referendum that has prompted a national debate on morality, class and the country’s place in the modern world.

Just over 59 per cent of voters cast their ballots on Sunday in favour of a proposal that will allow women to have an abortion at an authorised health clinic during the first 10 weeks of pregnancy.
