Mexico’s drug battle to receive extra dollars

The US is planning to increase aid to Mexico to help the country in its increasingly bloody fight with drug cartels.

US officials and Congressional aides say Washington is set to more than reverse a recent reduction in the scope of the Merida Initiative, a three-year programme intended to provide $1.4bn (€1bn, £970m) to Mexico, by boosting the funds available and extending the programme over time.
