BG suffers smaller profits decline than rivals

BG Group, the gas and oil producer, has reported a much smaller decline in profits than its larger rivals and stressed the “distinctive resilience” of its earnings.

Post-tax earnings for the first quarter fell by 13 per cent from the equivalent period of 2008 to £690m, compared to declines of about 60 per cent in US dollar terms for its larger rivals BP and Royal Dutch Shell.
