Emissions target splits EU car industry

A rift is opening between the producers of small cars in Europe and Germany's -luxury car-dominated industry over European Union proposals to tighten limits on cars' carbon dioxide -emissions.

The disagreement could scupper industry efforts to present a united front in demanding a relaxation of the new legislation, due to be officially unveiled today, which car producers warn could lead to the mass migration of car industry jobs out of Europe.
