Blackstone to pounce on rivals hit by crisis

Blackstone is looking to acquire rival private equity and hedge fund managers that have been weakened by the credit crisis, after it enjoyed a rebound in third-quarter performance across all its activities.

“We have $27bn of dry powder to invest today and benefit from an impregnable financial position with $2bn of cash on our balance sheet,” said Tony James, Blackstone’s president.
