Plan for 200mph UK rail link unveiled

Network Rail on Wednesday laid out a vision for a high-speed rail link from London to Scotland via Manchester, but admitted it did not know how the scheme would be funded or when it might be built.

There is an almost £18bn gap between the £41bn needed to build the new railway and operate it for 60 years and the estimated £23.4bn net increase in revenue that would arise over the same period.
