Objection to Black sentencing plan

US prosecutors have challenged the probation office sentencing recommendation for Conrad Black, the former newspaper executive who was convicted of fraud, because they fear it diminishes the significance of the crime he committed.

The dispute over a presentence investigation report by a US probation office, which recommends sentences to judges, could have a dramatic impact on whether Lord Black, the Canadian-born British peer, faces years, or decades, in a federal penitentiary.
