Pay-offs for civil servants to be curbed

Golden goodbyes for civil servants are to be curtailed – saving up to £500m over three years – amid a government drive to bring remuneration into line with the private sector.

The move prompted a backlash from union leaders who described the plans as an “outrageous attempt to cut jobs on the cheap”. The Public and Commercial Services union said it had consulted lawyers and could seek a judicial review into the changes.
