MPs query MPC conflict of interest

MPs on Thursday questioned the independence of David Miles, the newest member of the Bank of England’s monetary policy committee, as they called for an urgent report into potential conflicts of interest surrounding his continued role as a non-executive director of the Financial Services Authority.

The Commons Treasury committee raised no concerns about his professional competence and ability to contribute to the MPC’s interest rate setting. But it qualified its endorsement because of his links with the FSA.
